Employment

Each growing season (April through early November) The Alleged Farm has job opportunities for responsible, motivated people with a strong interest in sustainable agriculture.  Experience is not necessary, but a willingness to work hard and a sense of humor are required.

Farm workers help with everything from starting seedlings in the greenhouse to selling at farmers' market.  The work is often physically demanding, frequently tedious and occurs outside in all sorts of weather.  Most work days run from 8 to 5, and there is often a half day of work on Saturdays, especially during market season.  Workers will receive any necessary instruction and guidance and those with initiative and ability will be given considerable responsibility and a fair degree of latitude.  In addition to instruction on the farm, workers can attend the monthly meetings of the local sustainable farmers' group, which take place at various farms in the region.  Workers also have the chance to meet with  CSA members, to coordinate work day activities and to lead tours for classes from local schools.

As recompense, workers get a weekly stipend, housing and all the beets they can eat.

To get more information, send an e-mail to Thomas Christenfeld. To apply for a job, send a resume of some sort and a letter of general explanation. Applicants are also expected to visit the farm.
