News & EventsFARM VISIT DAYS FOR CSA MEMBERS Saturday, June 26th We will host several farm visit days for CSA members during the coming season. These days are a chance for members to meet the farm crew, see the farm and learn first hand how their food is grown. Each of the days will feature a discussion of some particular aspect of what we do, such as variety selection, crop rotation, cover cropping or cultivating techniques. Members are welcome at the farm between 10 am and 2 pm. We will provide drinks and snacks (possibly including the Kings’ apple fritters). Bring your friends. Bring a picnic and have lunch on the farm. But please leave your dogs at home. FALL HARVEST FESTIVAL FOR CSA MEMBERS – SUNDAY OCTOBER 3RD We invite our members to join us on the farm for a harvest festival in the early autumn. It is chance to tour the farm, meet fellow members, pitch in with a pleasant farm task, share a potluck dinner and, most importantly, enter your pie in the famous annual The Alleged Farm Pie Contest. The TAFPC winner, as determined by the farm crew, receives fame, glory and a coveted Alleged Farm t-shirt. Open house starts at 3 pm for those who want to help with a farm task or tour the farm. Dinner at 6 pm. VISITING THE FARM AT OTHER TIMES If you cannot make it out to the farm for any of the visit days or the open house—or you just feel the need to visit the farm more often—get in touch with us and we will be happy to find a time to show you around. GLEANING FOR COMMUNITY ACTION AND CAPITAL DISTRICT COMMUNITY GARDENS Each season we donate extra produce to organizations that distribute food to the area’s needy. Last year we gave Community Action over 3 tons of vegetables for their food pantry in Glens Falls. We also donated produce to CDCG’s Squash Hunger program. But for these programs to get as much produce as possible from the farm, they need help gleaning. Last year CSA members and the Robert C. Parker 8th grade came out to the farm in October and dug well over a ton of potatoes for Community Action. We will host more gleaning days this fall. In addition, if you are interested in coming to the farm—by yourself or with a group—to help pick produce for these programs, please get in touch with us. 2010 SHARES SOLD OUT Thank you for your interest in purchasing an Alleged Farm CSA share for the 2010 season. At this time all of our shares are taken. However, if you wish to join the waiting list please send an email to Thomas@theallegedfarm.com asking to be added to it. If shares become available I will offer them to people in the order they joined the waiting list. People on the waiting list will also be offered the chance to sign up early for a share for next season. ASA MEMBER DISCOUNT ON 2010 SHARES Once again, we are giving a $20 discount on our 2010 share price to members of the Agricultural Stewardship Association. ASA is a community-supported land trust dedicated to protecting local farmland from encroaching development. To date, ASA has protected over 10,000 acres in Washington and Rensselaer Counties, including 120 acres of The Alleged Farm.
